Kathy Baker Schorr
As an artist, learning to see and helping others do the same has been a life-long passion of Kathy Schorr. She is particularly committed to cultivating the arts in the context of church and faith. With a BFA from Colorado College, Kathy has made art and taught in public and private settings for many years, including the fine arts school she helped form at First Presbyterian Church in Midland, Texas, where her husband Steve is senior pastor. She finds following Jesus the most creative adventure of all, particularly with her family–daughter Hannah, and husband Ellis, and son Thomas, and wife Kendall. After teaching art for more than 25 years, Kathy established a modern/contemporary art gallery, Baker Schorr Fine Art, which opened in November 2018. Both in the gallery and in her relationships, Schorr believes that through art we can expand our understanding of beauty, be challenged to think deeply, and develop keen sight. In a culture divided against itself, art can help us make sense of our humanity. It can reveal the eternal, draw us to one another, and to the Creator of all.
